Press Releases

“Cancer Awareness of Nevada” (CAN) is a new non-profit formed by a group of concerned individuals whose own lives have been touched by Cancer. The mission of this organization is to support those in our community suffering from the effects of Cancer by raising awareness, providing preventive testing and financial assistance.

In an effort to raise funds for this important cause, “CAN” will be the beneficiary of the proceeds from the 4th Annual Lin Phillips Jam Session on January 6, 2013. The event will run from 4-10pm in the John Ascuaga’s Nugget Celebrity showroom. 4 years ago, Lin Phillips lost his life to cancer. Each year since his passing, his family, fellow local musicians and friends have been gathering to celebrate his life in a memorial jam session. This year’s Jam Session will be highlighted by performances by Lacy J Dalton and Collin Raye. Monies raised will be donated to Cancer Awareness of Nevada.

Cancer Awareness of Nevada will also host the 2nd annual “Dash for Dads” event on June 16, 2013 at the Sparks Marina. This fundraiser will once again benefit men struggling with Prostate Cancer and will provide funds for treatment and early detection.

CAN is also proud to announce that Joe Lopez, Carol Lopez, Bobbie Merrigan, Dane Wilt and Irene Heinmeier have graciously agreed to join as Board of Directors insuring a clear vision for the charity. Each board member brings extensive experience in fundraising, building community relations and awareness.

"I'm excited about the creation of CAN and working as a board member because we will be able help local families struggling with cancer, " says Bobbie Merrigan. For more information please visit our website www.CANevada.com or email info@CANevada.com or call (775) 690-2871.
